Outstanding A Level Results

Pupils from Mossbourne Community Academy Sixth Form celebrated today as they received
exceptional A Level results in the face of unprecedented circumstances.

A staggering 39% of students from the academy in Hackney, achieved grades of A* to A,
despite the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic and an overall national fall in the top
grades.

Unlike many schools across the country, students at Mossbourne Sixth Form maintained
their high academic record, with grades comparable to previous years, including, 89% of
students gaining A*-C grades and grades A*/A accounting for 39% of all grades.

Dr Suzanne Lienert, Head of Sixth Form at Mossbourne said: “I am so pleased that our
students have attained their university and next step choices. Despite the unprecedented situation we found ourselves in, staff pulled together and worked incredibly hard to accurately predict the grades of many of our students and we are thrilled with the grades they have attained. This is testament to years of hard work by the students and all of their teachers. A Level is always challenging, and at Mossbourne Sixth Form the outstanding care, support and quality of teaching has continued to hold firm.”

22% of pupils gained straight A*and A’s; 7 received confirmed Oxbridge places 6 secured
places to read medicine and 2 to study architecture.

Alice De Abaitua, 18, achieved two A*s and an A and has been accepted to study English
Literature at the University of Cambridge, said: “I feel really relieved to have achieved the
grades I have, especially considering everything that I have read in the news. Initially I felt a
sense of loss at not being able to sit my exams, however I am incredibly grateful for the
support I received from my teachers at Mossbourne and feel it has been a privilege to study
here.”

The academy is dedicated to helping students from all backgrounds, for example Rica
Peters, 18, a student who has lived in care since starting at Mossbourne in Year 7, achieved
an A*, A, C and has secured a place to study Theatre and Performance at the University of
Leeds.

Rica said: “The teachers who knew that I was in care gave me the emotional and wellbeing
support I needed to get this far. I received more than just academic support at Mossbourne,
many times it was my safe haven and because of that I was able to achieve the grades I
have today.”
