Principal’s Welcome

Principal’s Welcome When Mossbourne Community Academy opened its doors in 2004, it was a new kind of school. As one of the country’s first academies, located in a borough with wide-spread educational underachievement, it was an attempt to re-imagine what inner-city, non-selective education could be. We are proud to be one of the small federation of 4 Mossbourne academies which includes Mossbourne Victoria Park and the primary academies Mossbourne Riverside and Mossbourne Parkside. In September 2004, I was the first year group’s Head of Year, and will never forget the first cohort of 180 Year 7s (now all in their late 20s) lining up in pristine uniforms with a sense of bewilderment and awe. Since then, I have seen this academy turn from an ambitious idea to one of the most talked-about, most celebrated and highest achieving schools in the country. That vision was realised because of simple principles – the highest of expectations, a focus on details and belief in the value of hard work. It is my privilege now, as Principal, to welcome you to our website and the gateway to our academy. Everything we do is built on the idea that learning and safeguarding comes first, from the way we recruit and train our staff to what we expect of our students’ behaviour. Teaching and learning is outstanding. Lessons are planned and delivered with attention to detail to ensure pupil progress; this happens in every lesson and in every Learning Area. The learning environment is exceptional and the facilities are superb. In September 2021 we retained our Ofsted judgement of ‘outstanding’ and pupil value added outcomes have been amongst the best on the country, year on year, since our first set of public examinations in 2009. Mossbournians are polite, hard-working, impeccably behaved and rightfully proud of their achievements and aspirations. Our music specialism provides an outstanding range of musical opportunities to develop talent and potential, and there exists a range of extra-curricular activities like rowing, our medicine and architecture programmes, the Combined Cadet Force and the Duke of Edinburgh Award that pupils can opt into. Our students leave equipped with the confidence, determination and qualifications to walk the path of their choosing, and to do so guided by the values of courtesy, commitment and a belief in achieving excellence in whichever future pathway they choose. Ms R Warren Principal Mossbourne Community Academy.

“When a parent works with the Federation, it will maximize the student's potential for success. What is the key word for this to be accomplished? Partnership "Education is a shared partnership between dedicated teachers, motivated students and enthusiastic parents with high expectations"
